Well we thought we’d bring the year to a close with what has become an annual event of gathering all of our favorite things (books, music, food, clothing, organizations, miscellaneous) that touched our hearts, minds, and bodies 🙂
Shall we start off with a few good places for inspiration? Yes please!
Dana thoroughly enjoyed reading Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter while in Europe this summer. Set amidst the backdrop of the Mediterranean, this book has beautiful imagery and story telling that spans several generations. Hilary loved The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert. And we both were blown away by The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd – a novel based on the real lives of two abolitionist sisters who were also very active in the early days of the suffragist movement.
Playing Big by Tara Mohr is a MUST READ for anyone who has spent too much time keeping themselves small. Tara is an inspiring woman with wisdom and warmth coming out of her ears… And while we’re on the subject, Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay has us nodding with recognition all the way through.
Body Respect by Drs. Linda Bacon & Lucy Aphramor is a follow up to the book that helped put Health at Every Size® on the map. Linda and Lucy offer science, experience, and good old-fashioned logic to create the rationale for a revolutionary way to approach one’s health and well-being.
We love love love this brave spoken word poem Shrinking Woman.
Looking for some joyful movement? Check out Kelly Connor’s Yoga. Her teaching style puts love and permission first.
We had a BLAST speaking at The Body Love Conference in Tucson last April, alongside some of the country’s top activists in the body positive movement. We’re hoping to be presenters again in 2015, and we will be there regardless! Register so we can see you there!
Curvy Yoga’s Curve Camp looks like it was the place to be last June. Maybe add it to your gift list for 2015?
Tres Pupusas – This El Salvadoran staple will knock your socks off. We love this brand that you can find in the freezer at New Seasons.
Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Cashews (YUM!!) from the bulk food section at New Seasons!
Tiffin Asha Dosa – If you’ve never had an Indian Dosa, you’re missing out. Check out this new PDX food cart.
“Plenty More” Cookbook – From the creators of “Jerusalem” and “Plenty”, this cookbook has us eating and loving our vegetables.
Blue Star Donuts: If you live in Stumptown then throw out your Voodoo donut and head here immediately.
Body Trust is my birthright tattoos – don’t worry, they’re temporary 🙂 Let us know if you want one!
Our Manifesto – We Believe! We declared 2014 the year of our manifesto. (You’ll be able to get yourself a full sized poster when the webstore opens in February).
And we made it into The Huffington Post, people! It’s a total thrill to share the body trust with their audience.
Get on my body!!
Ayala Bar jewelry – gorgeous handcrafted jewelry. Think Frida Kahlo with crystals.
And Hazel Cox earrings.
Plus Size model Tess Munster created her “Eff Your Beauty Standards” t-shirt and we love the design (and the message!).
Herbivore Facial Oils are getting soaked up by our dry winter skin.
But coconut oil is also great for the skin! Who needs body lotion? Just pick up a jar at your local natural foods store and rub it in. It is especially luxurious after a shower/bath. Your skin will absorb the ‘oilyness’ in a flash and leave it silky smooth.
Rosewater Spray – We love the clearing energy of this rosewater spray. Make your own or purchase a bottle at your local natural foods store. Here is one brand we love.
We love all things Danielle LaPorte, especially her TruthBombs. She just released a beautiful TruthBomb Card Deck, which is a fantastic way to break your heart wide open and stir the creative juices.
We love this luxurious plush throw from Restoration Hardware – Cooooozzzzzzyyyyyyy
Blackbird Incense – Inhale. Exhale. Soooo good!
Wishing you lots of kindness and love this Holiday Season-
Hilary & Dana
