Our Favorites of 2015 (+ our online store is open!)
It’s that time again! Today we share with you some of our favorite goodies that brought a little bit of joy and a little bit of soothing comfort this year. Do you have some favorites you’d like to share? Let us know! We’re always open to new love affairs…
In the literary department, there were several books that moved us deeply and others we just. could. not. put. down.
“Dietland” by Sarai Walker – A deeply feminist wild ride – you really won’t believe this story line until you are sucked in and unable to stop reading.
“Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert: From the author of “Eat. Pray. Love.” comes this (non-fiction) delight, which will rejuvenate and inspire the creativity that lives in us all—a flame just waiting to be stoked and nurtured. Great tips for recognizing and living with fear.
“Brave Enough” by Cheryl Strayed: A collection of powerful quotes from the beloved author of “Wild” and “Tiny Beautiful Things”. We quote her all of the time. ALL OF THE TIME.
“Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls: A Handbook for Unapologetic Living” by Jes Baker: A manifesto and call to arms by the founder of The Body Love Conference and the popular blog “The Militant Baker”. We love all things Jes Baker.
“nejma” by Nayyirah Wahid: These words are truth, beauty and presence. We could read this soulful writing daily.
If you are looking to “Wear Your Joy” (as Kelly Rae Roberts would say), we have lots of goodies to share:
The aesthetic at Tumbleweed, a sweet boutique on Alberta Street in Portland, has long been a favorite of Hilary’s. She was completely flattered when owner Kara Larson made a Kara-line tunic named after her. These tunics come and go from inventory at the store – you may be able to pick up a Hilary for yourself or someone you love.
Also, Kara’s Bravery Scarves are gorgeous (made in collaboration with Egg Press) and the story behind them lives up to their name – you can find them here.
Hilary gave these earrings to Dana for her birthday. (She may have also picked up a pair for herself!)
Dansko Maria Booties are so comfy and unbelievably cute. Julie wore them to work and Hilary picked up a pair soon after.
This “99 problems but my curves ain’t one” t-shirt pretty much says it all! We’ve been having fun cutting off the necks of our t-shirts this year to make them more stylish.
These products are divine and make giving our bodies much needed love and attention all the more pleasurable:
Shankara is an Ayurvedic skin care line we discovered while teaching at Kripalu. Warning: like many skin care companies, they use a lot of anti-aging language – boo. But we love the smell of their treatment oils. We also love Herbivore balance spray.
This handcrafted artisanal soap by Atmosphere Soap is divine. You won’t be disappointed!
As for delicious bites to enjoy, who doesn’t love chocolate? Dana discovered Madecasse Chocolate and now we are both hooked. The cocoa nib is one of our favorites. We buy it at New Seasons Market in Portland.
We also love the aroma and flavor of Organic India Tulsi Sweet Rose Tea. This perfect cup will soothe and relax.
If you’re looking for ways to bring more color, art and creativity into your life, you might want to check out the work these amazing ladies are doing in the world:
Flora Bowley’s got great swag, and offers an e-course and luxurious creative immersions.
We were thrilled when Kelly Rae Roberts asked us to contribute a piece for her wonderful Wear Your Joy Project: a 30-day practice for getting dressed up in joy.
