Body Trust® is a reclamation. Of pleasure. Of knowing. Of wanting. Of listening. Of your own damn self. Body Trust work is a process of reclaiming our bodies after they’ve been harmed by stigma, diet culture, shame, difference, and othering, and then further distanced by our attempts to mitigate that harm by trying to control the size, shape or appearance of our body.
The behaviors we are encouraged to adopt in the name of assimilation (thinness and weight loss) aren’t sustainable and don’t really serve us. Health is more than just physical – it’s emotional, spiritual, and relational, too. It’s time to be part of a new conversation about bodies: one that nourishes and celebrates who we are and who we can become…regardless of how we show up.

This supportive group – including Hilary and Dana – will stand with you and believe in you as you navigate the process of reclaiming your Body Trust.

After the retreat, you will be invited to join our Body Trust® Network, an ongoing support community on Facebook to help you continue the practice and share in the love with other people traveling the same path. This retreat will help you regain the connection and trust that is your birthright so that your body becomes a safe and welcoming home.

It is a pathway to acceptance of the body, an alternative dialogue to the conventional paradigm of food, body image, and weight concerns in our culture. What is Intuitive Eating?
Intuitive Eating is an approach developed to help people heal from the side effects of chronic dieting. These side effects can include rigid ideas about “good” foods and “bad” foods, restrictive eating that leads to increased binging, feelings of not deserving food, social withdrawal, and a loss of self-trust, especially when it comes to food.
An intuitive eater is defined as a person who “makes food choices without experiencing guilt or an ethical dilemma, honors hunger, respects fullness and enjoys the pleasure of eating.”
Initial studies of intuitive eating have found that “intuitive eaters” have a decrease in thin idealization and triglycerides, while experiencing an increase in well-being, good cholesterol, and self-esteem.
What is Health at Every Size®?
Health At Every Size (or HAES®) is an exciting new conversation about sustainable, holistic health: physical, psychological, relational, and spiritual. This movement promotes the simple truth that all bodies are good bodies.
HAES® shifts the focus away from dieting for weight control, which is often motivated by self-loathing, and toward quality of life and self care practices that support your body’s natural wisdom and vitality.
The guiding principles of Health At Every Size include Weight Inclusivity, Health Enhancement, Respectful Care, Eating for Well-being, and Life-enhancing movement.
Body Trust® is repair work. We are healing our relationship with food, our bodies, and ourselves. Just like when you’ve lost trust in any relationship in your life, it takes time to get it back. When it comes to Body Trust, this trust is reciprocal—you are working on trusting your body and your body is working on trusting you to give it enough to eat consistently. We cannot heal our relationship with our bodies with a plan to make them into what the dominant culture thinks they should be.
*LOCATION DETAILS: Our office is located in a house at 3719 N Williams Ave in Portland, Oregon. There is no parking lot. Free street parking is available, but plan to give yourself extra time to find parking as proximity to the office varies. We are also close to many bus lines including the 4, 44 and 6 and North Williams is a busy corridor for bike commuters. There is access to a number of wonderful shops, restaurants, and a grocery store just steps from our door, which we enjoy on a daily basis and hope you will too!
The building is not ADA accessible. The front entrance and bathroom doors are 35 and 30” wide respectively, there are five steps to get into the building. In the back, there is a gate and pathway to the back entrance and two steps up to the back entrance. This entrance doorway is sliding glass and is 29” wide. Three of the five offices are located on the 2nd floor of the main house and there are 14 steps going up to the second floor. There is a studio space in the back of the building that does not require any stairs to access and we can arrange to meet you in this space given advance notice. Please know we are aware of the shortcomings of the building and the clear impact on those with mobility challenges. We are committed to creating an anti-oppressive and affirming space for the clients we work with, and are seeking ways to offer more accessible space in the coming years.
If on street parking is difficult because of your mobility, we can reserve a space for you in our back driveway area if arrangements are made in advance.
