Synergy is thrilled to host this training event with Motivational Interviewing expert and trainer Dana Sturtevant, MS, RD of Be Nourished. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is person-centered, guiding method of communication and counseling to elicit and strengthen motivation to change. MI offers a practical, common sense approach for supporting patients in making and sustaining health behavior changes. Originally developed in the drug and alcohol field, over 200 clinical trials demonstrate the efficacy of MI across a range of populations, target behaviors, and medical conditions.

At its core, MI is not a unique or entirely new approach, but a combination of principles, skills and strategies drawn from existing models of counseling and behavior change theory. Topics in this dynamic workshop will be adjusted between intro and intermediate to meet the group’s level of experience, and will include a variety of activities such as videos, “real-plays”, case studies, and small group discussions.
